Who Sets Your Standards?

Scripture Of The Day

Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think.  This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.  ( Romans 12:2)

By Cheryl Henderson

Every day, we are bombarded by voices telling us what to value, how to think, and even who to be. Culture subtly shapes our standards—what success looks like, what beauty means, and what’s considered “enough.” Without realizing it, we can start measuring our worth by comparisons, trends, and opinions instead of by truth.

Paul’s words in Romans 12:2 call us to pause and ask a piercing question: Who set your standards?

God invites us to live differently—not molded by the world’s expectations but transformed by His truth. That transformation begins not with changed behavior, but with a renewed mind. When we let Scripture shape our thoughts, God reshapes our standards. His Spirit adjusts our perspective, teaching us to value what He values and desire what He desires. Jesus set the standards for how we live with others, how we understand the world, how we are to love and forgive, and focus on what matters in life.  He is my measuring stick!

When your mind is renewed, your standards shift. You no longer chase approval—you live from acceptance. You no longer strive for worldly success—you seek divine purpose. And in that renewal, you discover the beauty of God’s will: good, pleasing, and perfect.
