“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4

Most of us have a hard time with this Scripture. Let’s be honest—no one likes suffering or going through hard times. Yet trials are part of this crazy world we live in. Here’s how I see it.
Sometimes life is moving along just as planned when suddenly sickness, divorce, grief, or another tragedy takes over. The routines we knew disappear, and fear begins to occupy the space where peace once lived. We can feel as though our lives have been hijacked. But a hijacked season does not mean God has lost control.
God has not abandoned us in the chaos. He is present even when we don’t understand what He is doing. Psalm 46:1 reminds us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God sees the pain. He hears our prayers. And when we no longer have the strength to carry ourselves, He carries us.
The Lord isn’t asking us to pretend everything is fine. He invites us to come to Him honestly—with our fear, questions, disappointment, and tears. “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee.” (Psalm 55:22 KJV)
We may not be able to change our circumstances today, but we can place them in His hands, one moment at a time.
And here is the good news: God can use even the hardest seasons to strengthen our faith. When we walk through trials trusting Him and standing on His Word, perseverance begins to grow. We become stronger, more mature, and more confident in who God is. We may not have chosen the trial, but we can choose how we walk through it.
With God, we don’t just survive the hard seasons—we become overcomers through them!
