Delivered But Not Developed

Scripture Of The Day
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! 2 Peter 3:18
By Cheryl Henderson
Once we are saved, we are delivered out of darkness into the glorious light. What a miracle! However, our scripture of the day suggests that we are to grow. Our life-changing experience is not the end, but the beginning. Growth is not optional for the Christian; it’s the faithful response to God’s patience and the truth of Jesus. Peter pairs two realities we often separate: grace and knowledge. Grace reminds us we are accepted and transformed by Christ’s work for us. Knowledge reminds us that faith is not a vague feeling but a grounded truth—who Jesus is, what he has done, and how we are to live in light of it. Mature faith moves between receiving grace and knowing Christ more deeply, letting truth shape worship and obedience. It is how we are developed.
• Spend regular time in Scripture to learn who Jesus is, not just what he can do for you.
• Receive grace daily: confess, rest in forgiveness, and let mercy motivate holiness rather than fear.
• Grow in community—teach, be taught, and practice truth in love.
• Let growth aim at one thing: giving Jesus glory now and forever.
