There remains therefore a rest for the people of God…Hebrews 4:9

Have you ever thought about what it means to rest in God? Rest is more than stopping what we are doing. It is a spiritual position, a place of confidence, and even a weapon against the enemy.
Rest is my position.
Ephesians 2:4–6 tells us that God “raised us up together” and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Notice the word sit. Jesus has finished the work, and we are seated with Him. We don't have to strive to earn what He has already provided. We can rest in what Christ has accomplished for us. Our position is not one of striving—it is one of resting in Him.
Rest is my confidence.
In 2 Chronicles 20:12, Jehoshaphat prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” What a powerful picture of confidence! They didn't have the answer, but they knew where to look. Sometimes rest means admitting, “God, I don't know what to do, but I know You do.” When our eyes are on Him instead of the problem, we can rest with confidence that He will take care of what concerns us.
Rest is my weapon.
The enemy wants to keep us anxious, fearful, and striving. But when we choose to rest, we are declaring that God is bigger than our battle. We don't have to fight every battle in our own strength. There are times when the strongest thing we can do is stand still, trust God, and let Him fight for us.
Today, remind yourself: I am seated with Christ. My eyes are on Him. I don't have to have all the answers. I can rest because God is working—even when I can't see what He is doing.
