Spirit-Filled Living

Scripture Of The Day

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him.  Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13 NLT)

I recently saw a powerful illustration of why we need to stay continually filled with the Holy Spirit. A speaker filled a tall glass with water to the very top and then began walking around the stage. As people gently bumped into him, water splashed out of the glass. The lesson was simple but profound: life has a way of bumping into us. Daily pressures, disappointments, challenges, and unexpected circumstances can drain us if we're not careful. Before long, our glass can become empty. And when we're empty, we have little to give to others.

Just as faith is a gift from God, hope is also imparted to us through the Holy Spirit. Paul prayed that we would “overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Romans 15:13). When the Holy Spirit fills our lives, He brings hope, peace, joy, faith, and love. Jesus is the source of all hope. He shows us the path of life; in His presence is fullness of joy, and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore.

The truth is, we need to be filled daily. We cannot live on yesterday’s experience or last week’s encounter with God. Each day, make time to be in His Word. Set aside moments to praise and worship Him. Spend time in His presence and allow the Holy Spirit to refresh and refill you. As you do, He will keep your heart overflowing with the Living Water that sustains, strengthens, and empowers you for every challenge life brings.
