Scripture Of The Day

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance." Psalm 33:12 "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." John 8:36

By Cheryl Henderson

On this day we celebrate national freedom—flags waving, fireworks bursting bright. But true liberty begins in a heart that knows the Lord. Psalm 33 reminds us that a nation’s blessing flows from honoring God; John 8 points us to the deeper freedom only Christ gives. As we admire the symbols of our country, let us also examine the soul of our nation and our own hearts. Are we living in grateful dependence on God? Are we using our freedoms to serve the vulnerable, pursue justice, and reflect Christ’s love? Freedom without faith can become license; freedom with faith becomes service.

Challenge yourself today: pray for leaders, seek reconciliation where there is division, and use your freedoms to honor God and love your neighbor. In doing so, the fireworks outside will echo a greater celebration within.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the freedoms we enjoy. Grant us wisdom to steward them well, courage to pursue justice, and hearts devoted to you. Make our nation — and each of us — a blessing that points others to Christ. Amen.
