Scripture Of The Day
“Tell them, ‘I Am Who I Am.’ When you go to the Israelites, tell them, ‘I Am’ sent me to you.” — Exodus 3:14
By Cheryl Henderson
While reading Jesus: The High Road Leader by John Maxwell and Chris Hodges, I have enjoyed seeing how Jesus consistently took the high road. As leaders, we should desire to do the same.
Our world constantly pulls us toward its way of thinking and doing things, but we don't have to conform. We can choose a higher way—the way of Jesus. As Scripture reminds us, we have a choice between life and death, and God tells us to choose life. I don't know about you, but I choose life!
The world is looking for authenticity. Jesus knew exactly who He was and never had to pretend to be someone else. As we lead and influence others, we must know who we are in Christ and be comfortable with the person God created us to be. The days of pretending are over!
Here are four declarations based on who Jesus said He is:
1. Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life.”
Therefore, I declare, “I will nourish others through what I have to give.” That may be my finances, gifts, talents, encouragement, or time. I will use what God has placed in my hands to bless others.
2. Jesus said, “I am the Light of the World.”
Therefore, I declare, “I will bring light wherever I go.” I will reflect the light of Jesus through my words, actions, kindness, and encouragement. I will make things brighter, not darker, wherever I go.
3. Jesus said, “I am the Gate.”
Therefore, I declare, “I will help open doors and show others the way.” I will share Jesus whenever I have the opportunity and encourage others to step into all God has for them.
4. Jesus said, “I am the Resurrection.”
Therefore, I declare, “I will bring hope and new life into every encounter.” Through the life of Christ in me, I can encourage others to rise above their circumstances and believe again.
Today, get real about who you are in Christ. Let His character shape your words, your decisions, and the way you treat others. You don't have to follow the world's way when you have been called to follow His. Choose life. Reflect Jesus. And wherever you go, always take the high road!
