Don't Play With the Darkness

Scripture Of The Day

To open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God. Acts 26:18

By Cheryl Henderson

The world we live in has a strong pull, and we must be careful not to slip back into old thoughts and patterns. One of the greatest dangers is justifying something we know isn't God's best for us. We tell ourselves, "It's no big deal. I'm just having a little fun. I can handle it."

Another dangerous pattern is ignoring the Holy Spirit's conviction. We begin making excuses, keeping secrets, and avoiding the people who would lovingly hold us accountable.

Never forget that sin crouches at the door. It will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.

Paul was sent to open people's eyes so they could see the difference between darkness and light, and choose light. As believers, we are God's ambassadors. Our lives should reflect that difference so others can see Him in us.

Here are a few ways to stay off the slippery slope:

• Be honest with yourself and those you love.

• Ask a trusted friend to hold you accountable.

• Admit when you need help and take steps to get it.

• Ask Jesus for help and stay in His Word.

Don't flirt with the darkness or convince yourself that a little compromise won't matter. Keep your heart tender to the Holy Spirit and your eyes fixed on Jesus. Choose the light, walk in the light, and let your life point others to Him!
