Scripture Of The Day
He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. 2 Kings 18:3
By Cheryl Henderson
During the reigns of the kings of Israel, there were good kings and evil kings. Many allowed idol worship instead of worshiping Jehovah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Then came Hezekiah. At twenty-five, he became king and did what was right in the sight of the Lord. He tore down the high places and destroyed the idols. He trusted in the Lord, and the Bible tells us that the Lord was with him.
I once heard a saying that has stayed with me: “You cannot conquer what you won't confront.”
Do you have any high places in your life? Perhaps it is bitterness instead of forgiveness, deception instead of truth, lust instead of purity, gossip instead of grace, or pride instead of repentance. These are things we must confront if we want to walk in obedience to God.
James 4:17 says, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn't do it, it is sin for them.” I don't want to live in willful disobedience. I want my heart fully surrendered to God.
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any high places that need to come down. Don't make excuses or justify what you know needs to change. Confront it, surrender it to God, and take the steps necessary to overcome it.
You cannot conquer what you refuse to confront. What needs to come down in your life so God can have His rightful place?
