When she heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. Mark 5:27
By Cheryl Henderson
One of my favorite stories in the Bible is the one in Mark 5, the woman with the issue of blood. I love this woman! I can relate to her. She was the most determined woman I have ever read about.
The word determination is “the power to make choices, set goals, and to act upon them firmly in spite of opposition or difficulty.” I think determination is an ingredient of faith. This woman had been bleeding for 12 years, she went to every doctor in town and she spent all her money and still was not well. How frustrating that must have been. However, she was determined to not give up! Most people would have given up.
She heard about Jesus and she believed that if she could just touch the hem of his garment she would be healed. I call this a made up mind! As Jesus was moving through the streets there were people everywhere Now you have to know that this precious woman, had she been exposed she would have been declared unclean because of her condition and that calls for stoning. Her determination and her never give up spirit pushed her forward to get what she came for. I don’t know how she did this, but she pressed in through the crowd. I think she must have been on her hands and knees in order to touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. But when she did she received her healing!
You know, most people would not have done what she did. They would not go to all that trouble. I think most people lack her determination. What is it that stands between you and what you want or need from the Lord? Make sure that it is not your lack of determination.
