Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My Word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32) NKJV
Walking close to God means that we must live in the Word. The word abide means “to live, dwell, stay and remain.” To abide in the Word is more than just reading it. It has to become part of you. You have to think it, speak it and it has to become part of your daily life.
God’s Word is His instructions, promises and encouragement for life. When we live, dwell, stay and remain in God’s Word the promise is that we will know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. There are many things out there that can keep us in bondage. Things like fear, guilt, and shame. In order to get free from these things and many others we must know the truth. When we abide in His Word and we know the truth, there is no devil in hell that can keep you in bondage.
I encourage you to not just read God’s Word, but live in it. Let it be where you dwell and stay. Freedom is one of the greatest gifts that God’s gives believers!!
