Scripture of The Day

I am reminded of your sincere faith which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice. (2 Timothy 1:5)

I heard a story recently about a man, let’s call him Tom.  He was widowed and retired.  His kids and their families were busy and had their own lives.  Tom spent a lot of time alone and was feeling pretty useless.  He had even told his daughter, “I am old and I have had a great life.  I really do not have a purpose anymore. God can take me any time.”

One day a conversation with a neighbor changed Tom’s mind.  His neighbor was having problems with his kids, so Tom prayed for them. Later Tom had the opportunity to share the Gospel with his neighbor.  Tom soon realized that he still had a purpose.  As long as there are people who have not heard about Jesus we all still have a purpose!

When you and I respond to everyday, ordinary encounters, people’s lives are changed.  Tom’s neighbor’s life was forever changed.  Timothy’s  life was changed by two women, Lois and Eunice who shared their faith with him.  These women had a “sincere faith” which they passed on to Timothy.  No matter what our age, background, or circumstance, we have a purpose–to tell others about Jesus!
