Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27
There are seasons in our lives of calm and seasons of struggle. These seasons are a fact of life on this earth. We may have wonderful years of satisfaction where everything seeming goes our way. And yet, that is not an indicator of our worth or our goodness. Hard seasons will also come. There will be times of lack, struggle, and tension. These are no more a reflection of us than times of celebration and joy.
I am so thankful that God’s peace is not dependent on our circumstances. It does not increase or decrease depending on where we are or what we are facing. It is always our perfect portion, keeping our hearts and minds at rest in the trust of the Prince of Peace. There will be times when we are drawn to worry, or we will have times when fear grips us and tries to spread its roots across our hearts. It is not about whether or not we will feel these things, it is what we do with them that matters. Will we give the Lord our worries and remind our hearts and minds of his faithfulness? Trust promotes peace, so let’s choose that today.
