Scripture for the Day – January 29, 2020
John 1:1-2: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” The Word of God says in Hebrews 13:8 that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
In John 10:30 Jesus said, “I and the Father are one.” David said about God in Psalm 102:27, “But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.”
James 1:17 says, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” The last part of that verse (no variation or shadow of turning), is a little unclear in the King James. Here are some other translations that will help us see this clearer: God’s Word Translation says, “The Father doesn’t change like the shifting shadows produced by the sun and the moon.” Douay-Rheims Bible says, “With whom there is no change, nor shadow of alteration.” Weymouth Translation says, “In Him there is no variation nor the slightest suggestion of change.”
So Jesus is the Word, He was with God in the beginning, and The Word (Jesus) became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus said He and the Father are one and we know that they do not change.
Jesus said in John 5:19, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.”
Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
If Jesus and God are one and they don’t change, that means they are still going about doing good and healing all who are oppressed of the devil. The only difference now is they are doing it through us, the body of Christ. This is what Jesus commissioned us to do in Mark 16:15-18 when He said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
God is faithful and unchanging!!!!
