Scripture for the Day – July 30, 2019

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3)

I don’t usually like to venture into the areas of politics, world affairs, or eschatology, but I’m going to make an exception in this case. As I look at what is going on in our world today I see a satanic attack that is spreading around the globe. It doesn’t matter if you are in Hong Kong, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Russia, Great Britain, the United States, or any other country, the same spirit is at work and it’s not a Godly spirit. We see divisions, scornful people, mockers, and protesters in every country. Most of these foreign countries are fighting for the freedoms we have in the United States and we in the United States are fighting each other because we have those freedoms. How crazy and insane is that???

Now, you can intellectually and politically justify most all this uproar. What you can’t deny however is that this type behavior was prophesied long ago in describing what would happen in the last days and it wasn’t described as being from God.

Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities. (Jude 1:8)

But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. These be they who separate themselves (creating divisions), sensual, having not the Spirit. (Jude 1:17-19)

So, what is our answer? How should we respond in these last days as born-again believers and disciples of Jesus Christ? Psalm 1, 1 Timothy 2, Romans 13, and Jude 1 gives us our answers. Psalm 1 says we are to delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on His Word day and night. We are not to walk in the counsel of the ungodly and we are not to sit in the seat of the scornful or the mockers.

1 Timothy 2 tells us – I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

Romans 13 tells us – Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. (Romans 13:1-2, ESV)

Jude 1 tells us – But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. (Jude 1:20-23)

God’s ways are not our ways. In the midst of turmoil and hopelessness, God sees revival. In the midst of all the mess, God sees a harvest. Be careful not to be sucked into all the anger, hate, and division that are being espoused during these times. We have to keep a clear focus on the harvest. You cannot do that with hate and bitterness in your heart. You can lay it all down by staying in the Word of God, praying in the Holy Ghost, keeping yourselves in the love of God, and looking for the mercy.
