Scripture for the Day (May 27, 2016)

But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)

We are presently in Charlotte, NC visiting our youngest son and his wife and family. We just returned from Matthew’s (our youngest grandson) graduation from 8th grade to High School.

The attached picture of our two grandsons was taken at the graduation. Sammy is the oldest of the two and as you may be able to surmise from looking at the picture they are two very different individuals. Sammy is a football player and is kind of laid back. Matthew iIMG_1984 (1)s a computer whiz and walks to a very different drum than Sammy and there is nothing wrong with that.

Spending time with these two reminds me of how different we all are in the Body of Christ. God made us all very unique and because of that God gave us some very specific instructions on how to treat each other. Listen to the following:

For the body is not one member, but many. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. And if they were all one member, where were the body? But now are they many members, yet but one body. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. (1 Corinthians 12:14-23)

God never judges us by our outward appearance but by our heart. We tend to judge by appearances which is where we go wrong. The very person that you write off due to appearance may be the very person God wants to use in your life.

I will never forget the story I read about in a biography by a famous Evangelist. He said he was doing extended revival meetings in a large church and one night, after a long day, he just wanted to get back to his room and rest. As he was walking out the door a Polish woman that was cleaning the church stopped him and asked to speak to him. The evangelist said he thought to himself that he was tired and did not want to talk to anyone else. He did stop however and reluctantly spoke with the woman. To his amazement this old Polish wash woman began to prophesy to him in broken English and the words that she spoke to him that night changed is life.

God has servants sprinkled all through our life to help guide us. I just wonder how many we overlook, miss or discount, because we are looking at outward appearances?

We need the entire Body of Christ, every member, to accomplish everything God wants us to accomplish!
