Burn The Ships

Scripture Of The Day
And truly, if they had been mindful (constantly rehearsing it over and over again in their minds) of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. (Hebrews 11:15)

Several years ago, my husband wrote the devotional you are about to read. I have found it so appropriate to add to this year’s devotionals. It seems so many are being lured back to their past. In Genesis 19, Lot’s wife is transformed into a pillar of salt for disobeying a divine warning not to look back at the burning city of Sodom while escaping with her family. Representing a longing for her old life and a lack of faith, she serves as a cautionary figure regarding attachment to sin. With that in mind, read this devotional and allow God’s Word to keep you from your former life.
Sometimes, forgetting those things that lie behind can be hard. We have all done things we are not proud of. Almost all of us have been through pain, heartache, failures, and addictions. However, the Word says that we are new creatures when we are born-again. The Word says we are overcomers and have been given authority to walk free from shame and guilt. So, what we have to do is take that authority and use it over all our thoughts, feelings, traditions, and actions that exalt themselves above the knowledge of God and burn our own personal ships by faith.
Take a listen to the following song by King & Country. It is the story of a wife dealing with addiction. Don’t look back!
