What Makes Christians Different?

Scripture Of The Day

Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” Exodus 33:15-16 NIV

By Cheryl Henderson,

When God delivered Israel at the sea, Moses and the people responded with a song of praise — a bold reminder that God is our rescue and our strength. But the journey didn’t end with victory; the people soon faced hunger and uncertainty in the wilderness. God met their need with daily provision, teaching them to trust him one day at a time. However, while Moses was on the mountain, the people began to doubt and think Moses was not coming back, so they created an idol to worship.

God’s anger at the golden calf reveals His jealousy for a people He has redeemed. Israel had just witnessed God’s power and deliverance, yet in their impatience, they turned to an idol they could shape with their hands. The offense is not only making an image, but replacing a living relationship with a counterfeit—trusting something visible and controllable instead of the faithful, invisible God who brought them out of bondage.

God’s righteous anger calls us back to wholehearted devotion. Idols today may be subtler—comfort, approval, work, technology, or even religious routine. When anything takes God’s rightful place in our hearts, it becomes an obstacle to intimacy and obedience. Like Moses interceding, God’s wrath can be met with repentance, restoration, and renewed commitment.

What make a Christian different? It is His presence in our lives. When we walk like Him, talk like Him, and walk in His love for others. Be Different today. Let God show you any idols you may have. Repent and let God restore you. He loves you more than you can imagine.
