Scripture Of The Day
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)
By Cheryl Henderson
Sometimes it is difficult to explain a vision to people who have never seen what you see. They have become comfortable with their present surroundings and don't realize God wants to do so much more.
A friend once went on a mission trip to an impoverished nation. The team wanted to teach the people how to plant seeds and grow crops to provide food and create income. When the vision was presented, their response was, "Why would we want to do that?"
Before we are too quick to judge their response, we need to look at ourselves. We, too, can become comfortable with the way things have always been done. Even our religious traditions can keep us from embracing something new that God wants to do. We must be careful not to let familiarity limit our expectation.
My vision for my city has always been to see an Oasis where the Spirit of God is free to flow like rivers of living water, not just a little drip, drip, drip! A place where Spirit-filled believers from every race and generation can come together in unity, be refreshed, and experience the presence and power of God. No more hiding our faith or being divided by our differences. Imagine what could happen when God's people come together in unity! That is when the power of God can be multiplied and an entire city transformed.
(Cheryl's Comments) I believe the church I now attend is that church! An Oasis where all can come and receive living water. We are a "Harvest House," and miracles are happening in this house!
My prayer is that you and your city will experience an Oasis church where the Spirit of God is welcome, people are refreshed, and lives are radically transformed and made alive in Christ. Don't settle for a trickle when God has promised rivers!
