As Jacob lay on his deathbed, he called each of his sons to his side and spoke a prophetic blessing over them. Of the twelve sons, ten were born to Leah and only two to Rachel, the woman Jacob had loved from the beginning. Because of Laban's deception, Jacob married Leah first and worked a total of fourteen years to marry Rachel, the love of his life.
When Jacob blessed Joseph, he described him this way: "Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over a wall." (Genesis 49:22) What a beautiful picture of Joseph's life.
Joseph endured more hardship than most of us could imagine. His brothers threw him into a pit, sold him into slavery, he served in Potiphar's house, was falsely accused by Potiphar's wife, and spent years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. Yet through every disappointment and injustice, Joseph remained faithful to God. He continued to bear fruit because his life was rooted in the Lord. Like a vine planted beside a spring, he continually drew strength from God's presence.
Jacob said Joseph's branches climbed over the wall. God's blessing on Joseph could not be confined. His influence extended far beyond his circumstances, touching countless lives.
So ask yourself: Are your branches climbing over the wall? Is your faith influencing your family, your workplace, your neighborhood, and your community? Are you still bearing fruit even in difficult seasons?
God has called you, chosen you, and anointed you. Jesus said we would bear lasting fruit and even do greater works through the power of His Spirit. Don't let fear, disappointment, or hardship become the walls that limit your influence.
Stay planted by the living water, and let your branches go over the wall.
