The Power Of Words

Scripture Of The Day

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” —Proverbs 18:21, NKJV

By Cheryl Henderson

God spoke, and the world came into being. Words and language were His idea—and Scripture reminds us that our words carry power.

Throughout the Gospels, we see the power of Jesus’ words at work.

His words brought calm. When the disciples were afraid in the storm, Jesus spoke to the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm (Matthew 8:26).

His words brought deliverance. Jesus commanded the demons to leave, and they came out (Matthew 8:32).

His words called the dead to life. At the tomb, Jesus cried, “Lazarus, come forth!” Lazarus came out, alive (John 11:43–44).

God’s Word is living and powerful. The Bible is “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16), and Jesus is the Word made flesh, who came to dwell among us (John 1:14). His words are “spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).

So let’s make God’s Word a priority. Read it with an open heart. Believe what He has spoken. Meditate on His truth, speak His words, and put His Word into practice.

As we read God’s Word and allow it to take root in us, we can speak it, pray it, and proclaim it— And see lives forever changed
