The Voice Above The Storm

Scripture Of The Day

‍ ‍

“The Lord thunders at the head of His army; His forces are beyond number, and mighty is the army that obeys His command. The day of the Lord is great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?” — Joel 2:11

By Cheryl Henderson

Life can feel overwhelming at times—like everything is happening at once and the noise of circumstances grows louder by the day. Joel describes a powerful scene: the Lord Himself thundering at the head of His army. It’s a reminder that God is not distant or passive—He is active, present, and in complete authority.

This verse may sound intense, even unsettling, but within it lies a profound truth: the same voice that thunders in power is the voice that calls us to return, to trust, and to stand in awe of Him. When everything around us feels out of control, God is still leading, still speaking, and still reigning.

The question, “Who can endure it?” points us back to our need for Him. We don’t endure by our own strength—we endure by surrender. When we align ourselves with God, we are no longer overwhelmed by His power—we are upheld by it.

Today, instead of being shaken by what you hear around you, tune your heart to the voice above the storm. The Lord who thunders is also the One who sustains, guides, and protects those who follow Him.
