Scripture of The Day

“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

(John 4:10)

I so love the story of the woman at the well. I love it for so many reasons. But in this devotional I want to talk about living water. Have you ever thought about what Jesus meant when He said He would have given her Living water?  I know water gives us life in that we need it to live. A large part of our bodies are made up of water. I know that on my new diet plan I am required to drink 64 ounces of water a day.

However, physical water is not what Jesus was talking about. In the old testament there are a couple of scriptures that talk about God being the fountain of living waters. (Jeremiah 2:13 and Jeremiah 17:13) So when Jesus came to this earth He brought with Him all that the Father was. The scripture says that Jesus is the exact representation of the Father.  When He sat down with that precious woman at the well, He knew all about her. He knew that she needed the living water that only He could supply.

As I read scripture I feel that Living Water is a symbol for the Holy Spirit. God in us.  “So, what is living water? Living water can be understood in various ways, but the clearest way is that living water is a symbol for salvation and a true knowledge of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. God provides us with everything we need and is the “living water” that continues to always give to us.”      (Quote from the ministry Quenched)
